Jon Wills - Head Coach

Jon joined Soundwell Swimming Club in April 2012. He was the clubs first Assistant Head Coach and in 2015 was appointed Head Coach. He is a former National swimmer from Kelly College and Bath University. Jon is currently a Level 2 Coach who has completed a BSc Sports Performance degree and is also a qualified personal trainer, strength and conditioning consultant and sports masseuse. Jon hopes to embark on a successful coaching career with Soundwell Swimming Club. He is a great believer in quality before quantity.

 

Paul Laughey - Age Group Coach

Paul became involved with the club through his own children. Initially Paul served on the committee, where he guided the club to achieving Swim21 status for the first time. He began to help poolside in 2005. Paul continued to develop his coaching skills assisting with the age group squads alongside previous Head Coach Eric Henderson and John Scanlon. Paul took over the age group squad in 2009 and since then has helped develop many swimmers from County to Regional level. Paul is currently a Level 2 coach who has completed an additional diploma in applied sports psychology. Paul can always be found on poolside at open meets and championship events assisting with pre and post swim briefings – something Soundwell coaches have always considered important for all swimmers.

Ashley Barnett - C & Sprint Coach

Ashley is a vital member of the coaching team and is lead coach for the junior and development squads. He also runs Sprint squad and assists throughout the whole club. He was a former Western County qualifier with the club who still trains and competes when called upon.

Denise Philip - Academy Co-ordinator

Denise is the current Academy co-ordinator, she has been involved with the club for many years and also sat on the committee. Denise coaches the junior squads and covers several early mornings. She has seen her daughter (Bea) progress throughout the whole club programme and qualify for Nationals on several occasions. Denise is a highly skilful teacher who has the ability to spot junior talent. Many of her swimmers have gone on to produce fantastic Regional and National results. Denise is also a former Soundwell club swimmer herself.

Claire Kerslake - D Squad Coach

Claire has helped with the club for the past three years. First assisting Denise, then taking lead on D squad. Claire is a head of school and also teaches P.E, so has all the right attributes to teach the development squads. With her two children within the club structure she is a perfect example of how parents can get actively involved with the club.

Julian Lewis - Coach

Julian is a former Chairman of Soundwell Swimming Club. He is also a former National age group swimmer who swam with the club as a young boy. He rejoined Soundwell Swimming Club in April 2009. Julian has swam all of his life and most recently competed in Gloucester and Western County Masters events. Julian is a Level 2 Teacher who believes fun swimming is fast swimming. His philosophy is ''Think BIG, achieve BIG''. He believes everyone can achieve great things and aims to keep swimmers in the sport for as long as possible.
